CCIIW Bursary – 2026
The Canadian Council of the IIW (CCIIW) is offering one or more bursaries for the 79th Annual Assembly and International Conference of the International Institute of Welding to be held at in Salzburg, Austria July 12th – July 17th, 2026. The details/program for the Assembly can be found at IIW 2026 | Salzburg, Austria - July 12/17, 2025. The Assembly and Conference is currently planned to be an in-person event only, however external factors may change this to either hybrid or fully online. IIW will announce any changes to the event, which we will relate to all applicants including any changes to the bursary arrangements.
The bursary covers the following:
- the cost of the full early registration fee only; or
- the cost of the full early registration fee and a portion of travel expenses for the Annual Assembly; or
- a portion of travel expenses associated with attending the Annual
Assembly for IIW prize/award winners.

The decision is made by the sponsor members of the Canadian Council of the IIW.

Purpose of the CCIIW Bursary
To increase Canadian participation in the work of the IIW through partial financial assistance to those who are genuinely interested in enriching their own welding technological background and who, through meaningful personal input into the work of the IIW, can ultimately direct benefits to Canadian Industry.
To foster direct Canadian involvement in international welding activities and help Canada gain stature as a progressive industrial country.
To fund new individuals to attend the Assembly to see the value in the IIW work in the hope that they subsequently become a regular attendee and continue in the activities of IIW.
Attendance at the Annual Assembly facilitates the international exchange
of information, direct input into the development of international
standards, and provides a forum for networking.
Eligibility
All persons who demonstrate an ongoing active interest in the field of
welding; IIW Prize/Award winners; and students. New applicants will be
given priority over past Bursary winners. Members and employees of the
contributing organizations to CCIIW are excluded.
Conditions
The recipient(s) is/are expected to assume the following obligations:
- To attend interview prior to decision on behalf of the CCIIW Sponsor Members.
- To attend all the meetings of at least one Commission during the Assembly.
- To submit within two months following the Assembly a short report (500-1000 words) giving their personal analysis of the Assembly, Commission sessions attended, and other functions from the point of view of benefits to Canadian Industry.
- To present a 5-minute presentation to the CCIIW members at the Fall CCIIW Board Meeting.

74th IIW Assembly and International Conference
Having considered the uncertainties associated with continued and varied travel restrictions, and the economic effects caused by the pandemic, it has been decided that also the 74th Annual Assembly will be held online. With this event, the IIW is coming back to its traditions, with a program enriched to include more content, such as the International Conference, the opening & award ceremonies, as well as a closing event.
Also in the 2021 edition, it is our goal that the virtual Assembly meets the needs of the IIW Community: presentations, discussions, development of documents and best practices, general interaction and sharing.Also in the 2021 edition, it is our goal that the virtual Assembly meets the needs of the IIW Community: presentations, discussions, development of documents and best practices, general interaction and sharing. The Event will be hosted on an interactive and responsive web-based platform which can operate on any device and allows to implement the IIW Online Annual Assembly with various participation modalities. All the functionalities of a traditional meeting will be covered and even extended, including panel discussions, voting, Q&A etc. The meeting technology has been updated for more interaction during sessions and amongst participants, to let attendees better enjoy our joining atmosphere.
To join the 74th Annual Assembly you just need to register on-line and, in accordance with the profile chosen or assigned, you will be able to explore the program, select the Commission you would like to join, explore the virtual exhibition areas or simply stay up to date with worldwide professionals in the field of welding and joining.
The 74th IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference will be held on 7 to 21 July 2021 as follows:
